John Waters

MAPACA is pleased to announce that our special guest for the 2014 conference is the legendary independent filmmaker, author, and popular culture aficionado John Waters. Born and raised in Baltimore, his notable films include Hairspray, Pink Flamingos, and Cry-Baby.

Mr. Waters will be honored as the inaugural recipient of MAPACA’s new Divine Impact Award, for meritorious and notable contributions to the cultural life and history of the Mid-Atlantic region. The award recognizes outstanding creative or scholarly achievement in the production, performance, or scholarly consideration of popular culture that exhibits exceptional contribution, longevity, originality, and impact.

Waters will be taking part in a brief Q+A session with MAPACA members at the conference’s reception on Thursday, November 6, and signing his new book, Carsick, afterward. MAPACA will have copies available for purchase.

(This event is open to MAPACA conference attendees only.)
